Photograph taken in the 1880s by Scowen & Co. of a Panorama composed of two joined prints of Colombo Harbour, in Sri Lanka, from an album of 62 views of India and Ceylon. The view looks south-west across the harbour and shows shipping moored inside the breakwater. The modern town and harbour of Colombo was developed under British rule. Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, became the island's main port surpassing both Trincomalee and Galle, both of which were natural harbours, when its breakwaters were built in the 1870s.
