Photographer: Archaeological Survey of India
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph of a marble carving from the asana or throne of a Jain temple image at Dabhoi, in Gujarat, taken by an unknown photographer, from the Archaeological Survey of India in the 1870s. The ancient town of Dabhoi was fortified by the Solanki Rajputs in the 12th century. It has a fort built in the Rajput military style with four gates in each cardinal direction. The corbelled arches are carved with musicians, warriors, dancers and mythical beasts. This view shows a Jain marble sculpture with two elephants and flying figures.
