Chumbal River showing the Kerai, [Kota]
Photographer: Herzog and Higgins
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph from the Curzon Collection: 'Vist of His Excellency the Viceroy. Kotah, November, 1902' of the Chumbal or Chambal river, near Bhonwar Khoh, Kota, in Rajasthan, taken by P.A. Herzog and P. Higgins in November 1902. The Chambal is Rajasthan’s largest river and at Kota it flows in a deep, wide stream with a slow current between cliffs and rocks rising steeply out of the water. This view records a sheer rock face in the distance with vegetation and a stony bank in the foreground. It was taken during Lord Curzon’s official visit to Kota.
