The soil in Chengannur is very productive being fertilised by the two great rivers, the Pampa and Kolakkadayar and affords excellent ground for the cultivation of sugarcane, banana and all kinds of edible roots, especially yams. The celebrated temples of Sabarimala and Achankovil dedicated to the deity Shastha are all situated here.
