This photograph was taken for the Archaeological Survey of India by Robert Gill in 1871. Henry Cousens reported, 'Near this temple [dedicated to Bhavani] are seen some fragments of a large colossal statue. These are a pair of feet six and a half feet from toe to heel, and a hand to match, so that the statue may have been from fifty to sixty feet high. This enormous figure has not been a monolith, but built up in pieces as is evident from the heel being separate from the fore part of the foot which includes the ankles...Near them is another pair of feet somewhat smaller [not visible in this photograph].'
