Photograph of the porch and entrance to the Buddhist chaitya hall at Bedsa, Pune District, taken by D.H. Sykes in 1869, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections. The Buddhist caves at Bedsa were excavated during the Satavahana period in the1st century. This view is taken from a passage cut through the rocks, looking towards the chaitya in Cave 7. The verandah has four large octagonal columns with pot bases and bell capitals which support a carved pair of animals ridden by couples. The side walls are decorated with arched windows and railings.
