Photograph of the entrance doorway to the sanctuary of a Shiva Temple at Baroli in Rajasthan, taken by an unknown photographer of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections: Northern Circle (North-Western Provinces and Oudh) in 1896-97. Baroli, situated on the Chambal River 30 miles south-west of Kota, has some fine examples of Hindu temples from the 10th century Pratihara period. The lintel above the sanctuary doorway, seen in this view, is adorned with a figure of Nataraja, the dancing Shiva, flanked by Brahma and Vishnu. Figures of the river goddesses are carved along the bottom.
