Photograph of the Navagraha Temple at Bod, taken by Joseph David Beglar in 1874-76. Bod is a small town in the modern state of Orissa. Beglar visisted the town as part of his tours of 1874-75 and 1875-76 and in his report he wrote,''...here are a number of small but exquisitely finished temples...The principal shrine is a comparatively modern erection well plastered over, consisting of a sanctum, a Mahamandapa, and a portico...it is dedicated to Rameswara, faces east, and is surrounded by no less than nine small shrines...they have a group of the Navagrahas [nine planets] over the entrance...I cannot assign to them any great age; the ninth century is the earliest which may safely be assigned to them...'
