This photograph was taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s to form part of an album entitled 'Photographs of India and Overland Route'. It shows a view of the hill station of Sabathu in the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh. The print shows the Cantonment, or permanent Army barracks, and the military sanitorium, which provided treatment and a recuperation hospital for the East India Company's European Artillery and Infantry divisions.
