View looking towards the gateway, flanked by octagonal, domed towers, of the great tank known as the Taj Bauri in Bijapur from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections taken by Henry Cousens in the 1880s. The Taj Bauri, a large artificial tank, was built c.1620 by Taj Sultana, wife of Ibrahim II (r.1580-1627). The apartments on either side of the entrance were used for the temporary accommodation of travellers.
