Photograph of the Kedareshvara Temple at Balagamve, taken by Henry Dixon in c.1868, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections. Balagamve was a town of considerable importance under the Hoysala dynasty, from the 10th to 13th centuries. The Kedareshvara Temple dates from the 11th century. There are three shrines arranged around a common hall and preceded by a larger open hall. Two of the three shrines can be seen in this view. On the left-hand tower there is a sculpture of a Hoysala king and lion, the sardula.
