Photograph of Mahabat Khan, the Nawab of Junagarh, seated in the centre of a large group of officials and servants, taken in the 1870s, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections. The heir-apparent and later Nawab Bahadur Khan is seated to the right, and the Minister Sheikh aha-ud-din to the left. Mahabat Khan was tenth in succession from Sher Khan Babi, the founder of the state who expelled the Mughal Governor and established his own power in c. 1735. Created a Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of India in 1871, Mahabat Khan died in 1882. His son, Bahadur Khan was created a Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire on 20 November 1890.
