A photograph of an official residence in Hosur, Salem District, from the 'Vibart Collection of Views in South India' taken by an unknown photographer about 1855.'The divisional officer's bungalow, locally called the Castle, was built at great cost by a former collector, Mr Brett (1859-62), when Hosur was the head-quarters of the District. It is in the style of an English mediaeval castle, with turrets, battlements, a moat, &c. It was purchased by Government in 1875 for Rs. 10,000'
