Photograph of the Khan River at Indore from the Curzon Collection: 'Views of places proposed to be visited by Their Excellencies Lord & Lady Curzon during Autumn Tour 1902', taken by Deen Dayal in the 1880s. Indore is situated on the banks of the Khan and the Sarasvati rivers, 190 km from Bhopal. The town was established in the 1760s by Ahalya Bai and was capital of the Holkar dynasty until 1947. Today it is one of the largest commercial centres of Madhya Pradesh.
