Three-quarter length standing carte de visite portrait of Ram Chandra Rao Gopal (1834-1897), Chief of Jamkhandi, from the 'Album of cartes de visite portraits of Indian rulers and notables' by Bourne and Shepherd, early 1870s. The state of Jamkhandi (now in Karnataka) was granted by the Peshwa to a member of the Patvardhan family. These Chiefs of Jamkhandi were Brahmins and also had the title of Appa Sahib Patwardhan. Born in 1834 Ram Chandra Gopal succeeded to the throne (as a minor) in 1840 and reigned till his death in 1897.
