Photograph of the Chandra Mahal, Jaipur in James Burgess' 'Photographs of Architecture and Scenery in Gujarat and Rajputana' taken by Colin Murray in c.1872. This is a general view of the south fa├žade of the Chandra Mahal, with the garden in the foreground. The Chandra Mahal or the Moon Palace (c.1727-34) is a seven-storey building with projecting balconies, each richly decorated. The top of the palace is crowned by a white marble pavilion and two small domes. A spacious verandah overlooks the Jai Niwas Garden, where terraces and channels are laid out in square in the Mughal manner, with a central waterway and a pavilion in the middle.
