Photograph of the Kamnath Temple at Baroda in Gujarat, from the Lee-Warner Collection: 'Baroda views and buildings, c.1890' taken by an unknown photographer. The temple stood on the banks of the Vishvamitri river and was the Hindu cremation ground for the city. This is a general view, showing steps built into the riverbank known as ghats. Water is regarded as a sacred agent of purification in Hinduism and after cremation the ashes would be cast into the river.
