This photograph was taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s to form part of an album entitled 'Photographs of India and Overland Route'. It shows Koti Kangra in the Punjab. At the end of the First Sikh War in 1845, Kangra Fort was ceded to the British and they established a garrison there. It was the strategic key to the entire area and was considered impregnable until the invention of modern artillery. It was largely destroyed during an earthquake in 1905 and little survives.
