This photograph of the Moti Mahal from 'The Lucknow Album: containing a series of fifty photographic views of Lucknow,' was taken by Darogha Abbas Ali c.1874. Moti Mahal palace was commissioned by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan (r. 1798-1814) and is located along the Gumti river. "This building was constructed by Newab Saadut Ali Khan...It was never used a seraglio, and appears to have been built for purposes of defence, or chack, on the advance of an enemy; in short, it may be described as the beau-ideal of a miniature citadel: it is prettily situated on the banks of the Goomtee, and is connected with a range of buildings known as the 'Mubarik Munzil' and the 'Shah Munzil.'"
