Photograph of Muhafiz Khan's Tomb, near the Mosque at Ahmadabad in Gujarat, taken by order of Major Cole, by an Army sergeant in c. 1881, from the Archaeological Survey of India. Jamail-ud-Din Muhafiz Khan was a nobleman at the court of Sultan Mahmud Begarha (r.1458-1511) and appointed chief magistrate of Ahmadabad in 1471, governor of the city in 1471. The tomb is situated to the north-west of the nearby mosque, built by Muhafiz Khan in 1465. It stands on a platform and is open on all sides with sixteen pillars supporting the roof.
