The photograph is taken looking towards the gopuras and the colonnade of the Nanjundeshvara Temple. The style of architecture of the temple is typical of the one that developed in Karnataka in the sixteenth century. From this period onwards entrance gateways became the dominant feature of the religious complexes. These monumental compositions consists of a granite basements finely carved and multi-storeyed pyramidal towers decorated with fully modelled plaster sculptures. Great emphasis was also given on open mandapas with elaborately treated columns.
