Outside of well, Cawnpore [Kanpur].
Photographer: Bourne, Samuel
Medium: Photographic print
This photograph was taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s. It shows the outside of the Bibighar well at Kanpur. The Memorial Garden was established to commemorate the tragic events of the Indian Mutiny of 1857. Many women and children died at the site of the Bibighar well as they were trying to draw water. The memorials were relocated after Indian independence in 1948.
