Photograph of the Retreat, in Mashobra, near Shimla, from the Elgin Collection: 'Spring Tours 1894-98'. This print shows a general view of the viceregal lodge at Mashobra, near Shimla. Located on the hill top of the Mashobra, the building was taken over during 1895 by the then Viceroy and used by the Viceroys of India in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a weekend retreat near Simla. The building is purely a wooden structure and was originally constructed in 1850.
