Photograph of a pwe in Burma (Myanmar), probably taken by Philip Adolphe Klier in the 1880s. (Images from the same performance are in Photo album 70).

A pwe is a form of traditional Burmese performance combining music, dance and drama which was staged during pagoda festivals and by travelling troupes in rural villages. This is a view outdoors of numerous Burmese girls in classical dance poses, wearing traditional costume.
