The state of Baroda (Vadodara) in Gujarat, western India was ruled by the Gaekwads from 1734 to 1947. The public offices were contained within the Juni Kothi or old fort, an ancient part of Vadodara. This building (which dates from the late 19th century) contained the Secretariat, the Record Office, the Military and Police Offices, and the State Library.
