Photograph of a distant view of Peterhoff, the Viceroy's residence in Simla from the 'Strachey Collection of Indian Views', taken by Samuel Bourne in 1863. Peterhoff, the Government House was occupied for the first time in 1876 by the fashionable Viceroy couple, the Lyttons. It soon developed a reputation for hospitality, particularly for the quality and quantity of exotic drinks served there and the very distinct lunch menus.
