The unknown photographer of this c.1890 print was possibly a member of the Public Works Department. The album of 46 prints detailing the construction of the Nadrai Aqueduct, Lower Ganges Canal was found in the Map Room of the India Office Library and Records in the 1970s and depicts various stages of its construction between May 1887 and 1890. The aqueduct, comprising of 15 arches each spanning 60 ft, measured 1310 ft in length, 88 ft in height and had foundations reaching to a depth of 52 ft below the river bed.
