Photograph taken in the 1870s by an unknown photographer of the Palace and Fort in the Old city of Amber in Rajasthan. Amber was the ancient capital of the Kacchwaha Rajputs from 1037 to 1728, until the building of the new city of Jaipur, and The Palace (Raj Mahal) was built around 1600 by Man Singh I, the Emperor Akbar's general. This photograph shows a general view of the area with the Palace in the middle distance, the City and Hindu Temple in the foreground and the Jaigarh fort on top of the hill in the far distance.
