Photograph of the ruins of Residency and Banqueting Hall, Lucknow, from the 'Strachey Collection of Indian Views', taken by Shepherd and Roberston in 1862.This once elegant building was erected in 1800 by Saadat Ali Khan. During the first war of Independence in 1857, the Residency Complex was a major focus of attack. The Banqueting Hall which was once a sumptuous council chamber, was converted into a hospital during the seige.
