Photograph of Ramasawmi's bridge over the Kaveri River at Sivasamudram, taken by an unknown photographer in the 1860s and is part of the 'Photograph album of Major General Jackson Muspratt Muspratt-Williams.' The Kaveri River rises in the Western Ghats, Karnataka State, flows south-east across a plateau through Tamil Nadu to the Bay of Bengal, South India. It splits in two twice and forms the sacred islands of Srirangapatnam and Sivasamudram in Karnataka. The ancient bridge shown in this photograph was repaired by Ramaswami Mudaliyal in 1818, hence its name.
