Ruined temple on bank of river, Telkupi, Manbhum District.
Photographer: Beglar, Joseph David
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph of a single celled ruined temple on the bank of the river Damuda at Telkupi taken by Joseph David Beglar between 1872 and 1873. The group of temples at Telkupi was described by Beglar, at the time this photograph was taken as, ''...perhaps, the finest and largest number of temples within a small space that is to be found in the Chutia Nagpur Circle in Bengal.'' At Telkupi there are over 15 large temples and many small shrines like that shown in this photograph. This has meant that the identification of particular structures from photographs is problematic. As Bloch tells us: ''It is impossible to identify each single temple with those described by Mr Beglar.''
