Photograph of the ruined temple at Kanoda, Damoh District taken by Henry Cousens between 1892 and 1894. Kanoda is located in the modern state of Madhya Pradesh. The town is also home to a fort which was constructed by Amir Singh, the Amil of Kanoda. Ruined, it is more of a summer hunting residence than a defensible fort. The small temple shown in this photograph is covered by a curvilinear tower made of a cluster of miniature shrines. It is decorated with vertical bands of mesh-like ornaments in the middle of each side. The outer walls have mouldings and carved bands with geometric motifs.
