Rear view of a ''small but very old temple, elaborately ornamented'', Degaon
Photographer: Cousens, Henry
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph of the rear view of the Kamalanarayana Temple at Degaon, Belgaum District, taken by Henry Cousens in the 1880s. This Chalukya temple is dated around 1175 from an inscription found inscribed on it. Built on an unusual plan, it has three shrines the principal one located inside a long hall which incorporates an open verandah. This view of the temple shows the two shrines some distance apart from each other. The walls are decorated with projecting pillars and horizontal bands of mouldings. The shrines are not roofed by superstructures.
