Photograph of the rear elevation of the Shiva Temple at Perambalur, taken by Alexander Rea around 1892. There are three temples dedicated to Shiva at Perambalur, the most famous being the great Brihadishvara Temple at Gangaikondacholapuram. This view shows the sanctuary of a smaller temple built in the Pandya style of architecture of Tamil Nadu. The hemispherical roof has arched motifs decorated with makaras and niches with sculptures of the Hindu divinities.
