Photograph of four sculptured slabs arranged beneath a tree near Dulmi, taken by Joseph David Beglar in 1872-73. Dulmi is situated in the modern state of West Bengal. The town is home to a number of ancient remains including a Shiva temple, a fort and a large number of mounds containing masonry and brick remains. These are what remain of both ancient houses and of a large number of temples that once stood in the area. The temples were built by a number of different faiths including Vaishnavaites, Shivaites, Buddhists and Jains. Large quantities of sculpture like the pieces shown here have been recovered from the mounds. These are described by Bloch as ''Aditya, two female deities, (and a) top-piece of sculpture.''
