Photographer: Caddy, Alexander E.
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph of the statue of Buddha at Kauwa Dol Hill taken by Alexander E. Caddy in 1895 which forms part of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections (Indian Museum Series). Alexander Cunningham writing after his 1880 visit described the statue in this photograph, "...The most prominent one is of Buddha, 7 feet in height, and 7½ feet broad, and which is now worshipped as Bhim Sen. The face is 16 inches broad..." This photograph was taken at a later date than the other pictures of the statue in the collection as the sculpture is shown at a more advanced stage of excavation; more of the statue is exposed.
