This photograph of the full-length standing statue was taken by Joseph David Beglar c.1873-74 and is part of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections (Indian Museum Series). The statue stands in the temple of Pataini Devi, four miles east of Pithaora. The temple has been assigned to the Gupta period by Cunningham. Inside the temple, "the pedestal of the enshrined statue occupies the whole breadth of the sanctum. The figure of the goddess is 3½ feet high, and she is surrounded by a number of small figures, of which there are 5 above, 7 to the right, 7 to the left, and 4 below. Her four arms have been broken off, so that she now holds no symbols by which she could be recognised..." A. Cunningham, Report of a tour in the Central Provinces in 1873-74 and 1874-75 (A.S.I. vol IX, Calcutta, 1879), pl. vi, and described p. 31.
