Photograph of the Statue of the seated Buddha at Bargaon. Taken by Thomas Fraser Peppé in 1870 this photograph is part of the collection of Sir Richard Carnac Temple. A number of Buddhist statues were found at this site; descriptive notes by Peppé accompanying the photographs read as follows, 'There is no place in this district where the ruins are so extensive, or on such a large scale. Unfortunately, the greater part are hidden under immense mounds of brick rubbish, and although the place has been used as a quarry for bricks for many years, the foundations are not yet reached'
