Photograph of a small Shiva temple at Bijolia in Rajasthan, taken by an unknown photographer for the Archaeological Survey of India Collections: Northern Circle (North-Western Provinces and Oudh) in 1896-97. Bijolia is located on the road between Bundi and Chittaurgarh and is situated on the picturesque Uparmal plateau. There was once a group of 100 Hindu temples in Bijolia, almost all dating to the 9th or 10th centuries, now only three remain. The area is rich in relics of medieval Mewar history. This photograph shows a small temple with a sanctury covered by a curvilinear spire with clusters of miniture temple towers. The porch rests on two carved pillars.
