Photograph of a stone temple car at the Jain temple in Chittamur from the 'Archaeological Survey of India Collections: Madras, 1894-95'. Chittamur is situated several kilometres east of Gingee in Tamil Nadu. Stone temple cars are a architectural imitation of actual wheeled shrine chariots used in temple festivals. This example consists of a domed pavillion or chhatri. It is reached by a flight of steps that is flanked by elephants.
