Photograph from the Curzon Collection: 'Views in Meywar'', of a street view near the palace, taken by Deen Dayal in c.1890. Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh (ruled 1567-72) as the fourth and last capital of the Mewar state after the sacking of Chitorgarh, the previous capital. The City Palace of the Maharanas at Udaipur was commenced by Udai Singh, however work continued for more than two hundred years. This view shows the town bazaar which leads to the principal entrance of the palace.
