Photograph of Hooghly River bank from 'Views of Calcutta and Barrackpore taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s. Aftermath of the Calcutta Cyclone in 1867, hulk of Blenheim sailing ship in the foreground on the banks of the Hooghly River. "The damage on the river was of a serious character. There was no storm wave, and the ships in the river were generally able to ride out the cyclone; but the number of cargo boats lost was so great that the business of the Port was seriously interfered with for a time."
