Photograph of the hospital from General Wheeler's entrenchment at Kanpur from 'Murray Collection: Views in Delhi, Cawnpore, Allahabad and Benares' taken by Dr. John Murray in 1858 after the Uprising of 1857. Wheeler's entrenchment, devised by Major General Hugh Wheeler, was composed of two barracks used as a hospital and was the location Wheeler set up his defence strategy against the sepoys. However, this site resulted in the first Kanpur massacre where Europeans who had surrendered and were fired upon by sepoys.
