Photograph of the great Gun at Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, from the Album of 'Views of Central India by Deen Dayal, Indore', taken by Deen Dayal in the 1870s.

The ancient centre of Vidisha is situated a few kilometres outside the modern town of Vidisha and is identified with the village of Besnagar situated between the Betwa and Bes river. The site flourished from the 3rd century BC to the 13th century AD. Only a few monuments have survived as well as the remains of a rampart remain on the west side of the city and numerous mounds that mark the sites of abandoned habitations and religious structures.
