Photograph of the Cashmere Gate, City of Delhi from the 'Strachey Collection of Indian Views', taken by Samuel Bourne about 1862.The Kashmir Gate was built in 1835 by Major Robert Smith and was later made into a double gateway (1857). It was here that the famous assault leading to the blowing of the gateway took place, early in 1857 during the 'Indian Mutiny'.
