View of a wooden bridge across the River Jhelum with the Raja's Palace in the background from the 'Album of Indian Views' taken by samuel Bourne in 1864. Srinagar is the capital of Kashmir and is situated on the river Jhelum, which divides the town into two. The river is crossed by nine famous old wooden bridges or kadals, built on an ancient cantilever principle, and newer constructions as well.
