This photograph of Wilaiti Bagh from 'The Lucknow Album: containing a series of fifty photographic views of Lucknow,' was taken by Darogha Abbas Ali c.1874.

Lucknow in the 15th century belonged to the Kingdom of Jaunpur. Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula (r. 1775-1797) choose Lucknow as the capital for the subsequent Nawabs of Awadh. Wilaiti Bagh was intended as a zenana garden, a segregated space for women, by Nawab Nasir-ud-Din Haidar (1827-1837).
