Photograph of the Shiva temple in Eklingji from the 'Reading Collection: Views of Udaipur taken by an unknown photographer c.1910. The photograph is part of an album containing architectural and topographical views of sites in Rajasthan, mainly of Udaipur, originally in the collection of Rufus Daniel Isaacs, Lord Reading, who served as Viceroy of India (1921-1926).
Eklingji, northeast of Udaipur, is a complex of 108 temples and shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is a general view of the Ekalinga Temple. The temple is built on the shore of a small lake and it is approached by a flight of steps. The hall or mandapa has finely carved pillars housing a four-faced Shiva image and a silver Nandi. The roof of the sanctuary is made of a cluster of miniature spires. The present structure was built in the 15th Century.
