The southern temple at Dapthu.
Photographer: Peppé, Thomas Fraser
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph of the southern temple at Dapthu. This photograph of the ruins of a brick-built temple was taken by Thomas Fraser Peppé in 1870 and is part of the collection of Sir Richard Carnac Temple. Descriptive notes by Peppé accompanying the photographs read as follows, '...it is the larger of the two temples, and as it stands at present it consists of a pillared hall, which was originally open, but was subsequently enclosed. The shrine has now nearly fallen, and in the enclosed porch there are a great number of figures collected, most of them in very good preservation; but the want of light in the interior prevents them being photographed'.
