Photograph of the Tanjore Pagoda, another view of the Subramanya temple, taken by Edmund David Lyon in c. 1868. Lyon explained that 'Subramanya was a favourite son of Shiva; the temple was therefore most appropriately placed under the shelter of his fathers. His image with his ''Vahana,'' or vehicle, the peacock, will be observed frequently repeated in this and the other Photographs of this temple.' The Subramanya Temple (17th century) stands within the Brihadishvara Temple precint.
